I don't normally post straight links to other places without any other content involved, but please, everyone, if you haven't already, take a look at Pride of Detroit's interview with New Era Scouting's David Syvertsen.  It's really eye-opening, and chock full of all the "football guy" stuff that's missing from a lot of fan analysis (like mine), and doesn't have any of the fannish manlove (like mine for Curry), or fannish NEVER!s (like mine for Stafford).  Bottom line, it's just good stuff.

What a fantastic interview!!!

I feel validated in my own opinions.

I would much rather see them draft Aaron Curry #1 overall, than anything else!!!!!!

Curry, then LB, then DT, then CB, then DE(?)...

Hey--It could be worse, right? Maybe now is the time to start an outcry for the Lions to trade Bills OT Jason Peters to protect Stafford.

NFLDraftBible, via PFT, has some interesting news about draft combine drug tests, which if true, will blow up the draft boards...

I guess that I am one of the few who is warming up to the idea of Stafford being the Lions QB, moving forward.

^not one of the few, but we're def in the minoriy, i think.

stafford vs cutler 2009 sounds good to me.

I'm warming up to the idea of Stafford because I have no choice. I'd probably rather trade down and get more picks. Multiple linemen on both sides of the ball sound good to me.

Square, you hit it right on the head for me. I have resigned myself to this pick. They're going to pass on Aaron Curry, the best defensive prospect since practically ever. They're going to pass on two outstanding left tackles. And they are going to take Matt Stafford.

The Good News is that he'll have two of the best possible crutches for a young QB: a radiant stud of a WR whose insane talent will cover up a lot of rookie mistakes, and a steady 4+ yard-per-carry running game that can keep defenses honest and keep the chains moving . . .

However, if the defense still hangs him him out to dry by allowing points every possesion, 2009 won't look much different than 2008, and the boo birds are going to come down hard on this young man. I just pray that if he's the pick, the flock of morons who root for this team don't rattle him too badly with their boos and catcalls.

Peace
Ty

One more bit about Cutler throwing for 6000 yards and 60 TDs:

Who's going to catch all of those? Greg Olsen? Maybe the Bears spend a first-day pick on a wideout . . . OH WAIT NO!

Heh. Cutler, I think, will be effective, but not as effective as he was in Denver, with Shanahan coaching him, and Marshall, Royal, and Scheffler to throw to. Am I bummed he came to this division? Yes. But I'm not cursing the fates. Chicago's offense hasn't had teeth since Sweetness left.

Peace
Ty
