Okay, last week I mentioned that I’d be quickening the pace on my, uh, biannual “Fireside Chat” podcast series. Well, here’s the first one for you—it’s only ten minutes long, is rife with mistakes, and follows a horrific false start. But on the positive side, there’s a lot of open-ended philosophizing about the hypocritical nature of fans and fandom.
Uh. I’m sorry, I’m a terrible salesman. Anyway, give it a listen. My goal will be to up the quality of both the production and the content every week. Please, please, please give me feedback of any sort in the comments. When toe meets leather for Week 1, I want to have this stuff down cold.

Great report, it is fascinating to watch this thing unfold live on the internet with Suh.
Couple of things about the comparison to Megatrons holdout though, first CJ never said he wouldn't holdout and more importantly, the no.1 pick was holding out, so the market could not be set.
In theory, with 1 and 3 signed it should be a matter of slotting Suh in there.
What I wonder though is whether the Lions have decided to use his, 'I'll not holdout' as leverage to low-ball Suh. Would make business sense.
They might even be leaking the Suh wants loads of money stories. Conspiracy theories abound...
The difference, Suh said publicly he did not want to hold out and Lewand has a reputation for being a very fair negotiator. Add to that, his dirt bag agents, who are no doubt trying for one last big payday before a rookie pay scale that makes any sort of sense, and you have plenty of reasons to be upset as a lions fan right now.
Bottom line, he should not make more than Stafford, the Franchise QB. Offer him 41 Million, let me say that again, 41 MILLION! and tell him if he does not like it than sit.
Detroits Dline will be improved without him. Hill has a season and full off season under his belt, Williams should be a far and away upgrade along with Bosch. Yeah the Dline would be better with him but over paying for a talent no matter how great is not good business. Throw in next years labor uncertainties and where the cap might end up, it just does not make sense to pay him more than Stafford.
As far as charity goes, donating money and toys to a University already rife with cash is not charity in my book. There are soup kitchens all over this country that would have praised him as god for that kind of help and the money would have been spent on people that need Food. That is charity.
Isn't Tom Lewand suspended? it might be another 30 days for Suh to sign. That could save TL the 100k he owes the NFL.
This just in, Suh has agreed to $40 million guarantee on a 5-year, $68 million deal. The ink's not dry yet, but, for all intents and purposes, he is signed.
One quote from the article I read: "Both sides were working on the language of the deal, and it was expected to be done by Wednesday, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press."
This always cracks me up. Obviously, I know nothing of the inner workings of NFL contracts, but I don't understand how "language" needs to be "worked out." Don't all these contracts basically read the same with different numbers plugged in? Apparently not because I seem to read this same quote every time a major signing is announced.

Per Killer Kowalski on the radio, Lewand gets to serve his suspension later in August after the contracts are done. It lends support to Killer's theory that Sheriff Goodell came down harder on Lewand as trying to show the players he's not just tough on players.
Re the podcast:
The vitriol unleashed online either shows that generally good people will be huge jerks when they have the oppurtunity. Or it shows that people are just huge jerks in general and are thinking all the stuff they spew online in real life, but society's conventions restrain them from saying it. I tend toward the later view. That's just the sense I've gotten of people. Maybe because I grew up in a small town and now work in another small town, where people seem more open about which things and people they hate.
So, how will that be resolved? Well, maybe seeing Suh Twittering back at people will help people transfer the way the behave in the real world over to the online world. Or maybe the web will become more tightly controlled and we'll all be less anonymous, because Facebook will control everything, and that will make people more circumspect. (I think even the thin veil on anonymity we have now makes a big difference.) Or maybe it'll stay the same, but people will get hardened.
I'm not sure NFL players, though, are actually going to experience much different, given the stuff that gets yelled at them from the stands on any given Sunday. Maybe it bothers them more to see it typed out in August, but these guys were getting a lot of abuse anyways. Especially those who played for a bad team. Dom Raiola didn't start flipping off the crowd because he has brainworm or something.

Not a huge issue, but for the amount of money I'm paying here, I'd like to have the choice (smirk).
