be my valentine?

From Dave Birkett's blog, a quote Martin Mayhew on the hiring of Shack Harris as the oft-mentioned "personnel man":

"Mayhew was asked if he'd be OK if Harris voiced strong opposition to his decisions as they related to, say, the No. 1 overall pick. 'There were any number of yes men available, and we didn't pick any of those guys,' he said."

I gotta say folks, I know I have to be all "WTF why didn't they CLEAN HOUSE!!!?!?!?!?!?" in public . . . but I have a secret man-crush on Martin Mayhew.  Sometimes, even the blind old rich dude finds the acorn.

Here's the thing, they are all talking tough, now and appearing willing to disagree and face conflict constructively.

But as we all know, the NFL front office is like the gladiatoral arena, to the victors, go the spoils. There will eventually be turmoil, dissension and power plays made, this is the NFL.

Mayhew does talk a good game, though.

Yeah, yeah, I know, and I loved everything Rod said in the first few weeks too . . . but I have to say, a former player with a law degree from Georgetown, his philosophies, his approach, the moves he's made so far? So far his track record is excellent.

I predict his ultimate crucible, in the eyes of the fan, will be what he does with the QB position.

I like his moves so far too. I didn't understand his hire at first but, putting Kitna on IR and the Roy Williams trade really gave me hope that he knows what he's doing and is not just another pretender. I'm hopeful! I'm a Lions fan, eternally hopeful.

Minker my friend, when we're looking up from the bottom of 0-16, all we have left is hope.

Peace
Ty

Look, Mayhew hasn't made a bad decision yet. Time will tell, of course. But there is reason for us to be cautiously optimistic right now. It sure looks like we're pointed in the right direction. The tough part is that we have to wait a few years to see if it there is any truth to all the talk.

Hi Ty,
Sorry I couldn't find an email address to send this to, so I'm posting it on here.

My name's Jeff Little and I've got the newest Lions blog on the block, The Church of Schwartz.(http://churchofschwartz.com) Previous to that, I'd been running SportsOpinion.ca for the last couple years. The Lions have always been my passion though and now I'm pursuing that. The reason I'm writing you is that I'm trying to put together a group of the most popular and prolific Lions bloggers. I'd like to run a weekly series where I ask three burning questions and then post the answers from each blogger.

The way it'll work is that I'll email the questions out to the interested bloggers every Monday. Each question will only require a short response, no need to write novels. I'll give you a few days to answer the questions and then post the answers either Wednesday or Thursday morning. In every article, there'll be multiple links to your blog, as well as the latest article on your blog. You're free to re-post the content on your blog also.

I hope you'll be interested in this offer and I eagerly await your response.

Thanks,

Jeff Little (Reverend Spielman)

Drew--

You speak truth! Only time can tell; I don't think franchise won more games in April than Matt Millen's Lions. With luck, we will make fewer headlines in the spring, and more in the autumn.

And, you know, hopefully not the kind of headlines we made this past autumn.

Peace
Ty

Good Reverend (Jeff)--

It sounds like a great idea, and a great mutual traffic builder. I've been following the Church of Schwartz (nice layout/colors/background, BTW!), and I'd love the opportunity to contribute.

Uh, I will endeavor to not write novels. I don't know if you've noticed, but my posts can get a little wordy . . .

Peace
Ty

BTW, my email is thelionsinwinter@gmail.com. I'll have to get that up on the front page; derp.
